It was an amazing experience to see glass blowing in person and talk to the very talented artist. Highly recommend!!
The Alder House is a small glass blowing studio South of Lincoln City. Originally it was detached studio for the couple that lived in the nearby house. Now the couple is retired and the studio is used by visiting artists. They don't let you blow your own glass but I love visiting here. The studio is a rustic geodesic dome, the glass pieces are beautiful, and the artists are always friendly and happy to answer questions.
You can put in requests in advance. I arranged for them to make an anniversary gift once.
You'll see the sign for Alder House off hwy 101, either just before or after Salishan Lodge, depending on your direction. It will be about 1 mile up a curvy road. Take the time to stop, well worth it. There's a pottery shop before Alder, so you can make it a two Fer!
Treasure was the artist the THREE times we stopped on our current visit to the area (we're from Auburn WA). On our 1st stop we watched Treasure create a beautiful seashell. I found a gorgeous vase that, if I hadn't bought it, I would have regretted it. The best part was watching Treasure make a small pumpkin for me (2nd visit). Took all of 8 minutes! Or as he said, "8 minutes and 24 yrs". 3rd visit was to pick up my pumpkin. I've bought many of these pumpkins at glass shows, but this is the 1st that I chose the colors and WATCHED it being made. Extra special!!!
We don't get to this area often, every couple years, but top on the list to visit will be Alder House!
We got to watch the gentleman blow glass and he made two custom pieces for us. We on way to go pick them up so excited to see. This is a must stop even if its to watch how he blows the glass . Love the little shop and the surroundings are absolutely beautiful and we like to hit the locally owned places over the big ones
Fantastic little glass shop where you can also watch glass blowing. We went because we found one of the flags hidden as part of the weekly beach hide! There are two adorable shop dogs there as well
I've been here maybe 4 or 5 times throughout the years and every time is a delight, the glass pieces showcase beautiful craftsmanship and clever designs, today we had a custom piece commissioned and the artist (Treasure is his name) was so patient, informative, and helpful.
They will ship your order if you want something custom and are only passing through. I highly recommend this shop especially if you want to see glasswork up close and personal.
This is one of those rare situations where I would like to give them 10 starts instead of five because the entire experience was a once in a lifetime experience. The glass smith was very outgoing and friendly and provided a complete demonstration on how the craft works. They have a little shop of their wares (there are five craftspeople) that provides a good selection of what they can do. If your in the area stop in and I guarantee you won't regret it!
Beautiful glass pieces and watching it being done is amazing!
